This Walk is for the birds!

We're really looking forward to the Bird Festival that the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority is putting on.  A stop-over point for migrating birds, Tommy Thompson Park has recorded over 300 bird species and is designated as an internationally acclaimed Important Bird Area.

7:00 a.m. START - approximately 1.5 hours long.  This is the time to be there - when peak birding activity is most likely to occur.

MEET AT Tommy Thompson Park entrance at the foot of Leslie Street (see map below).

After the Birding Tour you are welcome to stay and enjoy the various interpretive displays revolving around the following themes -  

1. Bringing Back the Birds

• Focus on bird conservation and current environmental initiatives underway that are making a difference;
• Illustrate how everyone can help birds in their own backyard;
• Interpretive stations, including children’s activities and guided walks will be offered hourly.

• Focus on bird identification and appreciation of migratory songbirds;
• Guided walks to see and hear the songbirds in the Peninsula D forest will be offered hourly;
• The Tommy Thompson Park Bird Research Station (TTPBRS) will be offering live bird banding demonstrations.

• Focus on the remarkable world of colonial waterbirds;
• Guided walks with opportunities to view and learn about the 7 waterbird species breeding at the park will be offered throughout the day.

For those of you that want to Walk after the Bird Tour, Tom Fiore will be leading a group to the lighthouse at the "Tip of the Spit" - an 8km round-trip that takes approximately 2 hours.
